Liberation of Netherlands
On May 5th 1945 the Germans officially surrendered the Netherlands to the Canadians. Canadians were dispatched to the Netherlands with a task to drive the Germans out of the Netherlands. They were to push German troops back to the sea and back to Germany.
As the fighting continued the Canadian found that there was a more important issue then fighting the German army because the Holland people in the Netherlands was dying of starvation. The advance on Germany was now secondary to the starving people of Netherlands.
On April 28th a negotiation was held with Germany to give food supplies to the Dutch people. Germany agreed and allowed for the food supplies and ended the “Hunger winter” for the Dutch.
In the end the Canadian freed the country of Holland which now we have a good relationship with.
